There is healing in the humble pleasures of domestic life.  Doing the laundry — the smell of soap and lavender, the calm of the white linens drying in the sun, the iron gliding on silk, the crisp, white sheets, the pile of perfectly pressed shirts; the sensation of labor accomplished.

We share these things in common.

I wonder if these simple pleasures can build bridges amongst us.  I invited you to do laundry with me.  Favorite articles of white clothing were collected, washed by hand, dried in the sun, ironed with care, and returned to their owners.

Could our society start healing, simply by taking care of things and of each other?

Il y a quelque chose de curatif dans les plaisirs simples de la vie domestique: laver le linge, l’odeur du savon et de la lavande, les draps blancs qui flottent au grès du vent, le bruit du fer qui glisse sur la soie, la pile de linge fraichement repassé et le sentiment du travail accompli…

C’est quelque chose d’universel.

Je me demande si ces petits plaisirs tout simples pourraient créer des passerelles entre nous…

Je vous ai invité à faire la lessive. Vous m’avez prêté de beaux linges blancs que j’ai lavés à la main, séché au soleil, repassé avec soin.
