Unction/Onction/Unzione

April 26th- May 26th 2024 and for ArtNight Venezia on June 22nd 2024

Corte dell’ Arte, Venice, Italy

Unction is an olfactory installation.

It represents an attempt to communicate with that which is beyond material.

It is a gentle enticement … an encouragement - a departure from noise, extravagance, and excessiveness.

With the help of a nose I created seven scents … seven faces, facets, expressions of the Feminine.

Visitors were encouraged to walk around the perimeter of the space in a clockwise circular motion and to share words and emotions.

My friend and colleague Gabriella Zimmermann came up with the brilliant idea of writing down these shared impressions. I became amazed at how much their words were speaking to my own intentions and started realizing that together we were creating an art piece that kept expanding with every visitor, stretching like a scent in a room.

I decided to share some of their words here.

May they help you remember smell.

May the Feminine enter you.

PS: A little silk sachet including the seven scents on one porcelain token can be sent to you on request.
